Workforce Development Specialist

Initially started with the mission to provide access to high quality tutoring without the high price tag, our organization has grown, minimizing education and care disparities for children through child care, tutoring, and more. We are an integral part of our community, providing much needed support for families, schools, and children.

We are hiring a full- or part-time Workforce Development Specialist in our Johnstown, PA office to recruit and provide support to pre-apprentices through school partnerships and community outreach.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

Pre-Apprentice Support and Recruiting

  • Develop and implement a work plan based on the geographic scope
  • Develop a deep understanding of the ECE pre-apprenticeship model
  • Work with ECE teachers at partner CTCs and High Schools to recruit and support pre-apprentices for summer internships (between grades 10 and 11 and 11 and 12) and co-ops during grade 12
  • Recruit child care programs for participation in professional development, host sites for summer internships and co-ops, and willingness to provide seamless transition into ECE apprenticeship and other free advanced learning pathways
  • Oversee scheduling of student and employer meetings in collaboration with ECE classroom teachers
  • Ensure mentoring and coaching components are implemented in an intentional way
  • Work with pre-apprentices and child care program directors to ensure participants and supervisors receive stipends with earmarked grant funding
  • Support ECE pre-apprentices through the entirety of their program including connecting them with tutors, as needed, for help in preparing for college placement exams
  • Ensure all pre-apprentices apply for the proper funding and maintain the correlating paperwork for completion of CDA exams and observations and transition to ECE apprenticeship and PDO and TEACH pathways, as appropriate

Community Outreach

  • Collaborate with Pre-Apprenticeship Program Manager to advocate for ECE pre-apprenticeship in the region
  • Work with Pre-Apprenticeship Program Manager to present information about pre-apprenticeship to CTCs, high schools, workforce, and community groups, as requested
  • Maintain open communication and positive relationships with all partners/collaborations, such as PDO, High Schools, and CTEs

What are the hours like?

  • Our main office is open 8 AM - 4 PM, but other hours may be discussed.
  • This position is full- or part-time, 30-40 hours per week.

What do you bring?

  • Associate's degree or higher OR equivalent professional experience.
  • Willingness to go through (and pass!) the required clearances and training to ensure the safety and security of our children, including: four clearances, mandated reporter training, a physical, and TB test. This can typically be accomplished within a week to get you started.
  • Capacity for sitting, standing, walking, bending and stopping for long periods of time, as these happen throughout the eight-hour day.
