Ignite Education Solutions is looking for substitute teachers in
Bedford, Cambria & Somerset Counties!

Position Purpose:

Substitute Teacher is responsible for the care and education of a group of children as part of a teaching team and functions as a substitute in the absence of the regular teacher in the classroom.

Minimum Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Reports to school office at the beginning of school day to sign in and pick up required materials/schedule of classes.
  • Reports to the school office at the end of the school day to return materials and follows sign out procedures as prescribed by school office administration.
  • Carries out a program of study prescribed in the lesson plans left by the classroom teacher whenever they are available.
  • Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.
  • Guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and objectives as indicated in the lesson plans for the lessons, units, or projects assigned.
  • Employs instructional methods and materials that are most appropriate for meeting lesson objectives.
  • Understands responsibility as a mandated child abuse/neglect reporter according to PA State Law.
  • Supervises all activities to ensure safety at all times.
  • Maintains a professional attitude and loyalty to the organization at all times.
  • Maintains a neat and orderly classroom by straightening chairs and tables, clearing chalkboard at the end of the day, and making sure all items are left as they were in the beginning of the day.
  • Takes attendance in accordance with school district procedures.
  • Indicates to students at beginning of class the basic expectations for behavior in the class in accordance with school district policies.
  • Ensures that the students are never left unattended in the classroom or put in an unsafe situation.
  • May perform duties usually required of regular classroom teacher in his or her absence such as lunchroom duty, hall monitoring, etc.
  • Knows emergency evacuation routes for the classrooms assigned.
  • Knows procedures for referring students who are disciplinary problems.
  • Performs other duties as directed by Ignite Education Solutions and/or school district administration.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
  • Student focused approach
  • High degree of flexibility and receptive to change
  • Acts as a good model of character with exceptional tact
  • Problem solving and leaderships skills
  • Strong behavior management and positive discipline skills

Minimum Education and Experience:

  • A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university OR
  • Teaching Certificate or Emergency Certification;
  • Appropriate clearances updated (PA State Police/Criminal Record, Child Abuse, FBI) dated within previous year;
  • Physical, TB and Drug Test done within previous year;
  • Mandated Reporter Certificate
